-What is Racism?

Racism is the act of discriminating/segregating a person due to their race.

-Two examples of racism

A couple of examples can be extricating white and coloured people to use types of transport or giving up their positions due to their skin colour (Montogomery Bus Boycott) and another example can be when Mahatama Gandhi was thrown out of a first class carriage which he rightfully paid with his own money and this occurred since he was a coloured person.

-Two Reasons why some people are racists

A few reasons why people are racist can be due to negative experiences with other groups of people and some people are just raised that way due to past experiences from parents/guardians with other races. Another reason why some people are racist is because they want to feel superior of themselves to conceal their insecurity about themselves.

-The UK Law on Prejudice or Discrimination based on race

The UK Law On Prejudice or Discrimination based on race contradicts to discrimination in access to education, public services, private goods and services linked with employment (Equality Act 2010).

-What Hinduism teaches about people from different races/ethnic groups?

-Hindus respect the fact that everyone has unique beliefs, practices and ambitions as well as the notion that is not necessary for everyone to hold the same belief. Moreover, there is no such concept as proselytism due to the belief that if the acts gets performed it holds the belief that one's religion is the only true religion, therefore everyone else should join it.

Key teachings from Holy Scriptures on the issues of race

In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna quotes "a saint sees the soul in a dog eater and a dog as one ." This portrays that God doesn't see no difference among various creatures except for their atman (soul). Moreover, in Hindu scriptures it states that man's self isn't is body, because his real self is his atman (soul). Therefore, all the discrimination is on the basis of illusion, which is called maya and when wisdom is attained the person is free from the cover of maya.

Scriptural teachings in relation to a different race

An ancient Sanskrit verse states a summary of the Hindu attitude,"As the different streams, having their sources in different places, all mingle their water in the sea, so, O Lord, the different paths which men take through different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to Thee." This portrays that Hindus believe all religions seem different and teach different beneficial acts, however they all come from the same place, which is the belief of God.

Differences in opinion on the issues of racism

Response to racism

Most Hindus oppose the notion of racism as they have suffered racism when they were in the hands of the Moghals and the British. In addition to the information, the person's karma is affected as well when they commit racism, which will cost them later on in their current or future life. Likewise, ahimsa is another highly preached rule, which means non-violence, therefore if a person of a different race gets discriminated it counts as a form of violence.

Work against racism done by an individual or an organisation

In South Africa, Mahatma Gandhi experienced a numerous incidents of racism and decided to abolish racism in South Africa with a few colleagues of his. Moreover, his plan commenced with the removal of "the pass", whihc Indians had to carry around with him, so the South African government can restrict the movement of non-European South Africans. Likewise, Mahatma Gandhi wanted to confront this via peaceful protests, because he believed in the law of Ahimsa. Gradually, he worked his way up fighting for his people, even though he got arrested many times he still went on unreluctantly. Unfortunately, his protests didn't make a major impact to racism in South Africa, however the South African government acknowledged to many of Gandhi's demands.
